5 quick skincare tips for the bride-to-be

It all starts with skincare. Believe me.

Skin is the base upon which your make up sits, and while make up can work wonders, a great skin is where it all begins.

I think its important for not just every bride, but every woman to embrace a good skincare routine. I almost see it as self-care. There is something I find so relaxing about taking my make up off at the end of the day. I do a 10step skincare routine and whilst many flinch at the amount of time I spend (about 10minutes which isn't too bad!) I find it incredibly theraputic and think of it as a way of treating myself, both physically and mentally! So, 10 steps has taught me a thing or two about skincare, so here are my top tips for having the best skin for your big day and hopefully forever! 1) It all begins with what you put in.

Possibly the most boring but most important tip of all, what you put in, you get back in regards to your skin. Doing makeup for 6 years, I can instantly tell when a face is dehydrated, when it hasn't been getting enough water, when its been getting too much salt or hasn't been moisturised. What you put into your body (unfortunately) shows in your skin. If I have had the most healthy month, have drank my 2 litres a day and ate nothing but lean and green, my skin shows it. But if i've had a lot of cheese, fats and fizzy drinks, boy does my skin show it. The biggest and best way to take care of your skin - load up on the water. It makes the biggest difference. So simple and so effective!

2) Double Cleansing

If you wear a lot of makeup - double cleansing should become a staple in your routine on the run up to your wedding day. I like to use a cleansing balm to take off my makeup (Emma Hardie, Bobbi Brown or Clinique all do great options) and then follow up with either an oil based cleanser or foam. For my dry skin, I find foam too harsh, so I stick to a soft oil based cleanser - my favourite is this Ricewater one by Korean brand The Face Shop.

3) Sheet Masks save the day

If you haven't tried a sheet mask yet, you have been committing the ultimate in skincare sins. These little babies have become my newest obsession, and if I ever have a bride or client who is feeling the stress and her skin is showing it, I give her one of these on the morning of her wedding. They are an INSTANT boost to the skin and if regularly used in a skincare routine, the difference is amazing. I use one a night (excessive some may say, but for me a necessity!) and my skin has honestly never looked or felt better!

4) Go Korean

Honestly the best decision I ever made for my skin and I recommend it to everyone. Korean skincare is miles and miles ahead of our own and is so so innovative and packed with scientific technology. I myself do a 10step skincare routine (which I may blog about if anyone wants to know more about it!) and it doesn't take more than 10 minutes a night - a small price to pay for perfect skin non? Definitely do some research into what products would be best for your specific skin type - but if you are just wanting to dip your toes into the 10 step routine, definitely start with sheet-masks and their essences.

5) Never underestimate the power of a mask

I've said it a million times in this blog post i'm sure, but masks are everything. The quickest and easiest way to replicate a facial (although nothing does beat a facial!) and give your skin an injection of everything it needs. I'm addicted to face-masks, both the sheet and normal clay/putty types. The market is saturated with face masks, there is something for everyone and every skin type but some of my favourites are Origins, Glam Glow, Antipodes and Deborah Mitchell.

So those are my five favourite tips for the newbie skincare addict. If you don't know where to start, start with these 5 things and build up your routine from there but be warned, its quite an addictive routine once you start seeing results! Do let me know below your favourite skincare tip!
